PROJECT BRIEF
Columbus Oriental Market is a privately owned retail grocery store that trades ethnic products. The store does not have a website and information was limited to yellow pages, Yelp and other private community sites. The goal of this project was to create a website. An informational website was developed to provide current and potential customers product details and availability.

IDENTIFY USER NEEDS

Details of the store are only limited to phone number, address and hours on yellow pages, Yelp and other private community sites.

Details regarding the products in the store and items on sale are not available.

As the store trades a wide variety of products from different ethnicities, oftentimes customers do not know the country of origin of the food products.
REQUIREMENT GATHERING
Requirement gathering is done based on functional-ideational-embodied framework. The arguments are based on observations and discussions with the client.
Functional
The store has a wide selection of Asian and East Indian products. Based on the type of products available, the customers for the store are Indians, Chinese, Japanese and Thai as discussed with the client.
Taking into consideration size of the business and customer needs, an informational website was designed to provide product details, promotional and contact information.
Ideational
Based on the discussions with the client, primary customer base belong to various ethnic groups and the socio-cultural qualities vary significantly for each group. This store caters to all the different cultures by providing products of international origin. Therefore emphasis on origin of products and variety based on nationality was considered important.
The mission of the organization is “best quality at the right place". In support of the organization’s mission, an organized layout was used with a white background to provide a sense of simplicity and cleanliness. High-resolution images were used to highlight the fact that original and premium products were traded.
Embodied
The users for this grocery store website expect all-important information like contact, working hours, etc. readily visible. They would visit the website to find updates on sales and special offers, availability of certain type of products and more information about these products. This can be achieved by a clutter free and professional looking website which is well structured and includes an attractive home page displaying sales and offers of the week and scrolling images of various products. Website users typically would prefer to reach their destination in least steps, therefore navigation between the pages is important and should be intuitive. Appropriate labeling and providing links to navigate between pages can achieve this. A positive experience is a must for all users of the website. This ensures users come back to the site and also instills a sense of satisfaction. These feelings can be achieved by using consistent pleasant colors, clear high definition images, professional typography and comfortable font size.
